Donations

As with all organization our biggest need is for financial support to pay the day-to-day running costs of the homes that we support. This year (2008) there are 5 units being run by the New Hope Foundation, Shun Yi main foster home, which includes Love Without Boundaries Heartbridge Step-up Step-down unit and a foster care program working with local families, and the existing special care units in Jiaozuo and Luoyang. And now a new special care unit in Xinyang which will open in October. This means that we will be caring for up to 153 babies and be employing over 200 local staff. The recent new labour laws in China have increased our general running cost to around US$60,000 per month.

We are always looking for help from volunteers both long and short term.

Regular material needs

Items not easily found in Beijing:

• Double strollers (Kolcraft Tandem strollers or similar)
• Hand sanitizer gel
  (Those who wish to contribute financially to buy in bulk, please contact Rebecca Dorris. Rebecca will also receive donated items sent to her within the US to be forwarded on to us by individual travelers.)
• Cot-sized mattress protectors, approximate size 45 inches (115cms)  by 30 inches (76cms)

Medical items:

• Oral replacement salts
• Baby colic drops
• Cough, cold and fever medication for infants
• 2-inch Soffban padding, stockinette, fiberglass  for casting clubbed feet
• Antibiotic eye ointments or drops
• Asthma medication for use with a spacer or with a nebulizer
• Dressings – Hydrogel dressings, thick gauze abdominal pads, regular sterile gauze
• Antibiotic ointments or creams such as Bactroban
• E45 or any similar water-based creams
• Liquid multivitamins for infants and young children
• Phenobarbital 30mg tabs
• Digoxin elixir 0.5mg/ml
• Sodium Valproate Liq
• Baclofen tab 10 mg tabs

We are often asked what quantities we need. The answer to this question would be “whatever you can provide.” These are ongoing needs and the number of children we are care for are ever increasing.

Items that can be bought in China:

• Baby wipes
• Toilet paper
• Tissues
• Cleaning fluids (tile, wood floor, glass, toilet, kitchen)
• Washing detergent
• Bleach
• Basic food supplies like rice, cooking oil, flour, soy sauce, peanut butter, mayonnaise
• Diapers (especially large and extra-large sizes)
• Single strollers
