News – February 2005
Dear Friends and Supporters, A Happy Chinese New Year to all our Chinese friends. We pray that this year brings you much peace and happiness. We did the traditional thing and presented all our employees with gifts of oil, rice and dried fish. These gifts signify that we wish them an abundance of food on their tables for the rest of the year. Rob and Ryan put on a beautiful firework display for the nannies and babies on New Year’s Eve, though perhaps not all the babies appreciated it!
Foster Home Shun Yi, BeijingThe babiesJoshua (Henan Province) and Aurora (Xinjiang Province) have returned from Singapore after heart surgery. We brought 5 babies in from our Special Care Unit in Henan Province to Beijing. Fu Tian Hua (3 months) was born with an imperforate anus but with a connection from her bowel into her vagina. She is scheduled for surgery soon. Fu Xiao Hai (2 months) has a complex congenital heart condition and is very blue. He has been investigated and his results have been sent to Singapore for assessment. We have agonized over baby Fu Dong Qiang (2 months), and many prayers have been said for him. He has hydrocephalus and after much struggling to get surgery quickly for him, we finally found a compassionate surgeon. He has had surgery and is doing well. We have high hopes for him. Bobby (3 months) has a distended abdomen. He will be investigated. Fu Tian Suo (3 months) was born with ambiguous genitalia. We will check the chromosomes before we proceed with finding a surgeon. We presented Hayley’s parents (US) with their new daughter. We have been waiting a long time for this and are so happy for her. We now have 26 babies in-house and our beds are full. VolunteersOur precious Gemma (UK) who has just left us after 2 weeks here and in Singapore has returned home but has already made plans to come back again later this year. God bless her.
Shun Yi Outreach Foster ProgramWe now have 10 children in our Outreach Program. Dang Jian Fang from Shanxi Province is a healthy child. She was sent to us as a child who supposedly had a heart defect. Investigations showed that her heart is perfectly normal. Dana Dang Jiang was admitted to our isolation unit with severe pneumonia. She responded well to treatment and went home to her foster parents on Chinese New Year eve which gave the family great joy. Andrea Ellen was returned to our Home as her mother could no longer care for her. Fu Xiao Hai has been admitted to hospital with a severe lung infection.
Foster Home Sai Qi Fujian ProvinceRob visited this foster home this month and brought funds from Harvard China Care students for Guo Yan Fei for her heart surgery. Rob also surveyed the new property which Love Without Boundaries is helping to renovate for the children to give them a new home. Plans are being drawn up as to how best to accommodate the children’s special needs. All 32 children there have been sponsored. Thank you all, and a special thanks to FujianKids who have recently found sponsors for the last 12 children.
NHF Special Care Unit, Henan ProvinceSince we opened on Jan 1st, we have had 12 children come to the Unit and 3 have died. They were loved till the very end and are in a better place now. Dr Lawrence T (UK) and Sonya T (Australia) left us after volunteering at the Unit for a couple of weeks. We thank them both for being a wonderful part of our team. Dr Lawrence says he is coming back in August for a couple of months and we have to think about that! His hairstyle was … hmm. His dress code was… well… only kidding!! He was a great volunteer and we welcome him back anytime. Dr Lawrence T and Sonya T were replaced by Lyn G (UK) and Twila C (US). Thank you all for blessing us and the children with your presence. We hope that we have blessed you in return. Other newsFor those of you who are helping Yan Jian Xing (14 years old) from Mongolia with his treatment for leukemia, he is doing very well and has about 3 more treatments to go. His parents are eternally grateful to you all for saving his life. Zhen Qi (18 years old, Bladder Exstrophy), an orphan from Shandong Province, has been offered an opportunity by Love Without Boundaries to go to the US for corrective surgery. Details are being worked out.
Our ThanksThrough generous donations from many of you, all our needs in last month’s newsletter have been met. We have been able to purchase our new vehicle and a new washer and dryer for the Special Care Unit. Thank all very much. We have had many volunteers offer to work in the Special Care Unit and amazingly we are covered till about late October! So many of you have responded to our need for Soy formula and have taken great pains to bring us an unbelievable number of cans from the US and Canada. We have now received a very large donation from Singapore thanks to the good work of Mr KL Kang. We now need to find a way of getting 2500 cans of milk to Beijing. We are working on it. We have also received an abundance of medication and medical equipment for our children from various doctors in the US, Canada and Singapore, many of whom do not even know us personally. Thanks too to all those who continue to support us financially.Peak Pacific staff deserves a special mention for their substantial financial gift at Chinese New Year Thank you all so very much. You all have blessed us and the children, far beyond our expectations. Thank you Father, for Your abundant blessings.
