News – March 2006

Dear Friends and Supporters,

This month has been extremely busy. It is with great pleasure we announce the opening of our new Love Without Boundaries Special Care Unit (in Beijing) and many “waiting” babies will now have beds. Babies have come in from orphanages in Guangdong, Jiangxi and Anhui Provinces, all in need of medical care. We have employed and trained 26 new staff, 24 of them are nannies. We now employ approximately 140 local staff and care for 62 babies.

Dang Fu Xing has left for Singapore for heart surgery for a very complex congenital heart condition.

Parker Dang Zi Run has been moved to a foster family in Luoyang under the supervision ofCEO Foundationwho has a great foster program there and Alicia Dang Ji Bei has been adopted and is home with her family in the US by now. Her Mom reports that she has settled with ease and has picked up the English language so rapidly. We thank Becky Plummer, her preschool teacher here at NHF for giving her an excellent start to her new life.

We have had to return Mary Fu Wen Fei (Muscular Dystrophy) to her orphanage as her foster mother could no longer care for her. She is under the supervision ofChinese Orphans’ Assistance Team
, an Australian organization who has worked for many years with this orphanage and have a great physical therapy unit there.

Spencer Sam will leave for Hong Kong on April 20 for surgery. He is expected to be there for 1 month.

NHF Special Care Unit, Jiaozuo, Henan Province (12 beds)

We have had 2 new admissions and 2 deaths here this month: Sarah Fu Zi Jiao (premature); and Sophia Fu Gao Yang (congenital heart disease) died peacefully. 68 seriously ill infants have been admitted to this unit since 1 January 2005 and to date 20 have died.

Volunteers

Marta and Susanna from Sweden and Kate RT have had their hands full and we have been very grateful for them.

LWB Special Care Unit (12 beds)

We moved 12 children into this new unit on March 31. Bill C, a doctoral Physical Therapy student will assist us in assessing the children requiring physical therapy in our main Beijing Unit, our Henan Unit and the children in the outreach program. Bill will also advise on equipment that we need to buy for this unit in Beijing and in Henan.

NHF Special Care Unit, Luoyang, Henan Province (45 beds)

This is still on the cards to renovate and open by the end of this year and we will be able to focus more on this now that the LWB Special Care Unit is up and running.

Our Most Sincere Thanks To

  1. KKL from Singapore who covered the cost of Fu Jin Jin’s recent surgery.

  2. More than 20 students who came and worked on maintaining our playground equipment.

  3. Capital Community Church, Dawn C. and A Mother’s Love who each have sponsored a room in our Luoyang Special Care Unit.

  4. Those who sent us much needed supplies from many parts of the world.

Our Needs

  1. We still need either volunteers with foreign passports willing to take children and care for them in Hong Kong, while they undergo surgery. All expenses paid.

    OR…

Families in Hong Kong who would be willing to foster them short term (2 months). Please contact Joyce if you know of anyone who can help.

  2. Many children are in need of funds for travel/ surgery in the next month or so.

Even part of the costs for any of these children will help our Medical Fund. Please email us and we will be able to give you details and photos of a child requiring surgery.

With gratitude,

Joyce and Robin Hill
