News – September 2006
Dear Friends and Supporters, Saving Joey
Since we sent out our appeal for Joey about 48 hours ago [from Wednesday, September 27], funds have increased to a total of US$46,840. Thank you so much to all who have donated. Joey went in for surgery yesterday and the neurosurgeon reports that all went well. We thank volunteers Sylvia H (UK) and Barbara G (US) for being by his side. Our very special thanks to all our dear friends and supporters in Hong Kong,Matilda International Hospital, staff and surgeons of St Mary’s Hospital, and everyone all over the world who have shown their deep love for this baby. Please keep him in your prayers.
Foster Home Shun Yi, Beijing (26 beds)The babies
We admitted Dang Jin Yang urgently from Kaifeng SWI, although we don’t really have a bed for her and we are using the bed of a child currently in hospital. She has a complex heart condition but is also extremely malnourished and had terrible pressures sores that she is unfit for surgery. However she is feeding very well and is putting on weight and her sores are healing. We hope to show you a very different picture next month.
Fu Gao Fei, Fu Gao Mei and Fu Jin Jin have all returned from having neurosurgery and are recovering well.
Aurora was readmitted to Singapore for her second heart surgery and for the first few days she was in a very critical condition. They had to operate twice within 48 hours to stabilize her. As of today [Wednesday, September 27] she is still in intensive care but her condition is more stable.
Love Without Boundaries Shun Yi Outreach Foster Program (currently 15 children with possible maximum of 20)Three of the children in the Outreach program have been assessed by our Physical Therapist from Singapore and two of them, William and Li Lian are required to come in on a regular basis to receive treatment.
Show Hope Special Care Center – Jiaozuo (12 beds)One child, Fu Jiang Zhong, was admitted. He has multiple deformities but he is getting the best care possible. There have been no deaths there this month. VolunteersWe thank Sylvia H (UK), Cathy C (USA), Hailee T (USA) and Dawn C (Singapore) for helping us.
LWB Special Care Unit (12 beds)
A new local staff member has been employed and trained by our Singaporean PT colleagues to provide physical therapy to all our children who need it. The PT room is being used daily and 11 children (including two from the Outreach program) are receiving regular treatment. Next week another PT from Singapore will be here to observe the progress and also begin training a local person in our Jiaozuo SCU to do the same for the children there. We have many people to thank for enabling us to provide this service for the kids:Love Without Boundariesand other individuals who have sponsored rooms, for the building of the 2 storey facility; Singapore’sKK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, for providing the expert PT trainers; Bill C from NYIT, for pre-assessing the kids and buying the equipment; andA Mother’s Lovefor providing the funds to buy the equipment. Thank you all. A major need has been met and the children and benefiting tremendously.
NHF Special Care Unit, Luoyang, Henan Province (45 beds)Though the Unit’s renovations were completed on schedule by September 1, our meticulous builder was not entirely happy with the painting so it had to be re-done. Unfortunately we were scheduled to bring in the children and staff but nothing deterred us from carrying on with our work. 13 children were admitted and one very ill child (Fu Le Cong, aged 4 months) died within 24 hours of severe pneumonia. All 12 children had to be cared for in one room while the painters finished their work but now all is well and they will be moved to their designated rooms. More babies will be brought in over the next few months as we re-enforce our nanny training and open up more rooms. We expect the unit to be fully occupied with 45 babies by the end of this year.
Our Most Sincere Thanks To
Our NeedsWe have no real urgent needs that have not been met and some are in the process of being met. Today New Hope Foundation cares for 78 babies and we employ approximately 200 local staff. All this has been made possible with the help of our faithful supporters all over the world. The children may not know you, but you should know that your contributions and prayers, your hands and hearts, have made tremendous differences in these babies’ lives. With our deepest gratitude, Joyce and Robin Hill
