News – June 2007
Dear Friends and Supporters, Visitors and summer volunteers are beginning to pour in and the next 3 months will be a busy time in this respect. We hope that their time with the children will be fulfilling.
Hope Healing Home Shun Yi, BeijingA new baby, Qing Le, 2 months old, was admitted after abdominal surgery arranged by Beijing United Family Hospital. She is doing well so far. Three-month-old Sabrina Esther (Yu Jia) is doing very well after a very difficult time in Beijing United Family Hospital. Surgery was performed and she was found not to have Hirschprung’s disease as was first suspected but just a blockage of her bowel which was successfully repaired. She is home with us and our job now is to build her up to a healthy child as she was meant to be. We are tremendously grateful to Beijing United Family Hospitaland Dr Peter Yip for taking care of her and saving her life. Jayne is home from Hong Kong after successful surgery. Her single kidney needs to be monitored but all her surgeries are now completed. Benjamin did not receive surgery in Hong Kong as scheduled because of the difficulty involved in the procedure to close his bladder. The decision was made to wait about a year before the surgery is attempted. Jia Wei, who was admitted last month with a congenital heart condition and apparently suffered a stroke, is doing well. He should be ready for heart surgery soon. Gabriel had surgery to his feet done by visiting surgeon Dr Jim Gamble from Stanford University. Dr Gamble comes regularly to China to offer his services to orphans needing orthopedic surgery.
Love Without Boundaries Shun Yi Outreach Foster ProgramAfter a second surgery to correct his feet, Cal was returned to the foster parents at their request. They missed him so much and have promised to use his braces to keep his corrected clubbed feet in position. We have found a new family to take in Kailee and she is doing well.
NHF Special Care Units, Jiaozuo and Luoyong, Henan Province (57 beds)JiaozuoDaniel and Mark, 2 little boys with many problems, died peacefully and loved. One returned to orphanage – fat and healthy, and waiting for surgery for his cleft lip. Three new babies were admitted. We are grateful for the cover given by Cathy and Paul Inder from Australia, followed by Mary from Ireland, and Simon from UK. This unit continues to play a vital role in the work of the CWI in Jiaozuo. LuoyangWe have had several deaths and were particularly sad to lose Julie, who succumbed after a brave struggle post surgery. Eight new babies were admitted and 4 await local foster homes. Two babies, Rachel and Paul, who were brought in with feeding difficulties because of cleft lips and plates have now had their surgeries and are doing well in foster care in Luoyang awaiting adoption. A special thanks to Amanda, Chin and Choo, Kerry and Leslie for providing much needed cover for Alan and Lyn to get a break with their family in UK. Also Sylvia (UK), who came back for a couple of weeks to be the children’s special Grandma. During the month we were able to create a space for a play/therapy room so enabling the longer term care children to have some fun in a different area. Many thanks to Families First for the timely arrival of new toys arriving at just the right time to kit out the new room! We are also very grateful to all those who have contributed much needed medicines again – arriving just in the nick of time!
Heartbridge Rehabilitation Unit (9 beds)One baby, Nui Niu, has been move to another facility making room for Guang Yan who has had surgery to her vagina and anus. She needs some tender loving care and she should be fine.
Our Most Sincere Thanks To
