News – October 2007

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Over the last few months we have experienced many amazing opportunities to help more and more infants in desperate need. At this time we have the capacity to care for 153 babies, having 4 units in China.

Since we began this work 8 years ago, we have never had to ask for funds for our general running costs in our newsletters. We now find ourselves in a position where our monthly running costs are around US $50,000 per month. Today we have less than 2 months running costs in the bank. We are asking you to think and pray about this situation and if any one feels that they are able/willing to contribute to this on a regular basis, we would be very grateful. Almost daily we get requests to help infants abandoned around China in terrible need but we are limited both by space and finances to what we can do. It is heartbreaking to have to say “no” but this is the reality of the situation.

This month has been a rather difficult one for us with so many sick children. We were honored to be asked to care for 5-year-old Chun Yu, a child from Bethel Foster Home, whose blindness was caused by a brain tumor. After a long struggle to save her life, she passed away peaceful in our home. She was a very much adored child and so many people’s lives have been touched deeply by her. Our hearts go out to those who have cared for her at Bethel and those who grieve for her. If you are not on Bethel’s mailing list, please see their message below:

Dear friends,

Chun Yu
Chun Yu

We have been writing you about Chun Yu and her battle for life for the last 6 months. After her brain surgery she never got out of coma and her health has deteriorated since. Last Friday, after the doctors told us that there is nothing that can be done for her medically wise, we decided to take her out of the hospital and take her to Hope Foster Home which is a foundation that is used to care for orphans who are dying. Today Chun Yu passed away at about 5pm. She was peaceful, surrounded by people who loved her, in a comfortable environment.

We thank all of you who have contributed to her life, with time, finances, care, prayers.

We are forever grateful for that.

Thank you

Delphine and Guillaume

This new unit has admitted 12 new children so far. They all have medical needs and were sent to us with the hope that we will be able to provide whatever care they need.

We are thankful for the help of husband and wife team Dr and Nurse Lim from Australia who have been a tremendous help in admitting and assessing the new babies.

Our Henan Director Linda has been working so hard getting all the nannies trained and working hard.

Love Without Boundaries Heartbridge Rehabilitation Unit (18 beds)

Po passed away suddenly but peacefully only 3 days after admission. It was sad to lose him so quickly but he was a very sick little boy.

Miao has been in hospital so many times and still her feeding issues have not been resolved or diagnosed. We are preparing for her to be investigated in Hong Kong as soon as we receive permission for her to travel.

Yi, who had had heart surgery, developed a serious infection of her chest wound and after a stint inBeijing United Family Hospitalto try to get the infection under control, she had to be returned to Hangzhou for surgical treatment. Please keep her in your thoughts. She is going through a very difficult time.

YF Ni was admitted this month. She has had heart surgery.

Our Most Sincere Thanks To

  1. The Morning Sun Center of Hope has begun its infant formula program in Luoyang orphanage for children under 2 years old and we have been the grateful recipients for 23 of our children in our Special Care Unit. We understand that this program will also extend to the children that we have in Xin Yang.

  2. All those who have supported us financially.

Our Needs

  1. The following children who are having surgery in Shanghai need support of US$650 each for their travel expenses, their caregivers salary and food. All the other 7 children going to Shanghai have been supported.

  2. DZ Bing needs US $4000 for his bowel surgery. He was admitted urgently to have part of his bowel removed and still needs surgery to open his anus. Even though he has Down’s syndrome, we still feel that he deserves the best that we can do for him. The heart surgery for Eddie as not been completely sponsored and we need another US$1,000 to cover his costs. FS Xiang and FM Lian need about US$340 each to have their heart conditions assessed so we can find them the most suitable surgeon.

  3. More volunteer nurses are needed, short or long term. Our work is very much dependant on those with medical skills and a heart for these children. Please email joyce@hopefosterhome.com if you are able to help.

With our deepest gratitude,

Joyce and Robin Hill
