News – January 2008

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Here’s wishing you all the very best for 2008. May this year be one that brings you much joy and may you also find strength in the trials that you may face.

Just to give you a brief summary of New Hope Foundation’s activities during 2007.

a) In Beijing:

  • 53 new admissions
  • 61 hospital admissions and surgeries
  • 21 adoptions
  • 7 deaths

b) In all our special care units there were a total of 135 admissions and 83 deaths.

c) In Xin Yang we renovated and opened a new (our 3rd) Special Care Unit with 18 beds.

d) In Luoyang we began building a 6-storey, 100-bed unit in association with Show Hope(Show Hope Healing Home).

e) With the financial help of supporters for this specific purpose, we have been able to employ 8 Filipino nurses and 1 American nurse to help run our Units.

f) In Hainan Island, we assisted with the setup of a palliative care and isolation unit in Haikou orphanage and also trained their Chinese staff in our Luoyang Special Care Unit to equip them to run this unit themselves. We have heard high praises from the trainees of our Henan Director Linda Liu who ran the training program. Linda has been in our employ for the past 9 years. She has risen in the ranks from a humble, insecure woman to a confident, self-motivated, trustworthy leader in our organization. We are extremely proud of her. Our desire is to raise more leaders like her who have the plight of the orphans foremost in their hearts. We are so proud of her.

At the end of 2005, we had beds for 60 children. At the end of 2006 we had beds for 120. At the end of 2007 we currently have beds for 154 children.

We at New Hope Foundation would like to sincerely thank all our supporters. We are beginning 2008 with about 4½ months running costs in the bank. Your financial support has allowed us to continue this work to save as many lives as we can.

Hope Healing Home, Beijing

Gabriel has returned from Hong Kong where he had surgery on his dislocated his left hip. Gabriel has a genetic condition which affects all his large joints and we are hoping to get more surgical help for him.

Lucy who suffers from a childhood cancer, retinoblastoma, is doing well so far and has fared well through the first 2 courses of her chemotherapy.

Emma left for South Carolina for treatment for her face. We are very grateful to Mariah B her family, her church family and her entire community for banding together to help this beautiful baby.

Our Most Sincere Thanks To

  1. We have so many to thank for their very generous financial support in sponsoring babies, nannies and surgeries. Especially during December 2007, many of you have blessed us tremendously with your financial support. This encourages us to go into 2008 with confidence that God will continue to provide for all the needs of these precious children.

  2. We also want to sincerely thank all the medical professionals all over the world who have been unceasingly helpful in supporting us with surgeries, advice and medical supplies. We could not have done this on our own. You know who you are so please accept our deepest gratitude personally to all of you for your valuable help.

  3. We are in need of very special feeding formulae for 3 of our kids who have different and unusual feeding problems and we would be grateful for donations of any of the following which are very difficult to get in China. These are not cheap and not easy to get so we need your help more than ever to help our 3 special babies survive. If anyone is willing to donate even a can or two any of these it would be a great help to these children. If you are in the US please contact Rebecca Dorris in Tennessee who will transport these to us as soon as possible. If you are not from the US please contact us directly:
  • Nutren Junior
