News – July 2009
Dear Friends and Supporters, This month, we officially opened Maria’s Big House of Hope in Luoyang, Henan Province. The Chapman family was honored by the Chinese government for their contribution to the care of orphans in China. This was a wonderful time of celebration and a very personal time of healing for the family. Their gift of Maria’s Big House of Hope will bring much comfort and healing to many sick and dying children in our care and we are grateful for their support. There was much fanfare, and Maria’s memory was honored with music and songs of praise. Show Hope also sent a team of artists under the leadership of Jim Chapman, Maria’s uncle, who painted Maria’s favorite pictures on the outside as well as the inside of the entrance to the building. Please see our or Show Hope’s website for pictures of the opening.
Hope Healing Home, Beijing
We are as busy as usual with so many babies needing medical and surgical care. The list never ends. Matthew returned from Hong Kong after bowel surgery and he is recovering well. We are grateful to Dr Peter Yip and the excellent care provided by him and MedArt/COO who covered the cost of his surgery. Lucy also returned from Hong Kong after spending 2 years there having treatment for cancer of her eyes. She is in remission now but we will continue to monitor her here in Beijing. We are personally indebted to Dr J Ngan of MedArt/COO and his family for caring for Lucy in their own home for all this time. Lucy is a beautiful child and in spite of her medical condition, she needs a permanent, loving home. FH Jie who was admitted last month has been investigated for heart surgery and been found to have an inoperable heart condition and high pressure in his lungs so he will return to our hospice care unit in Henan province to be made comfortable. FQ Chuan was in hospital being stabilized for heart surgery She had surgery on July 23rd and she is now in intensive care. Her’s too is a difficult case but the surgeons were willing to try. Three children – GZ Wei, Knox, and W Gang – needing reversal of colostomies have been sent to Shanghai to have this 3rd and final surgery. They were born without their anuses. Please see our needs below for funds for these 4 babies. Please support these precious children to have the surgeries they need to be healed. New admissionsWe had 6 new admissions this month. AB Yun and A Ke both have operable conditions. Baby R Ai was admitted and she will need more bowel surgery as soon as we can stabilize her and help her gain some weight. She is such a little peanut but quite active and bright. DY Yan was transferred from Maria’s Big House to prepare her to go to the US for treatment of the vascular tumor on her tongue. Our medical staff and nannies have done a great job keeping her alive and getting her healthy so that she is now fit to have corrective treatment. Her prognosis is very good and we hope that she will be completely healed and adopted. FD Hua and L Yun were brought to Beijing from our units in Jiaozuo and Xinyang respectively so we can arrange surgery for them. They both have spina bifida but have good function of their lower limbs so the prognosis could be good. Our medical staff at these 2 units has also done a great job keeping these kids healthy.
Adoptions
This month Jenny left us to return to her orphanage to await her adoptive parents. She has been matched to a family so we are hopeful that the wait will not be too long.
Love Without Boundaries Shunyi Outreach Foster Program
Joseph, Gordon, and Nehemiah were moved to outreach program. A new family has been cleared to join this program and have taken in Nehemiah. We now have 17 children in this program, all waiting for adoption.
NHF Special Care Units, Jiaozuo, Luoyang and Xin Yang, Henan Province (75 beds)These units provide humane and loving, hospice care for infants and young children with severe congenital defects who are unlikely to survive under normal circumstances. Those who survive are unexpected blessings. Luoyang(Maria’s Big House of Hope) The children and staff are settling in after the grand opening. We lost Maricar, John Lloyd, and Hayden who passed peacefully. Sean, Jasmine, Theo, Franky, Hudson, and Daisy were admitted all in very poor condition. We will do our best for them. Eddie, Mikaelah, and Rihannah’s dossiers are being prepared for adoption. The three of them had heart surgery in Shanghai and are now well. The next step is for them to find loving, forever families. JiaozuoFH Jie was returned to this unit from Beijing to receive palliative care, and FD Hua was transferred to Beijing for possible surgery of her lower spine. Xinyang(Alexandra Yeo and Open Arms Children’s Foundation Unit) Jean and John passed away peacefully. Emily was admitted one night but passed away after only a few hours. The Kingdom of Heaven belongs to ones such as these.
Love Without Boundaries Heartbridge Rehabilitation Unit (18 beds)
HJ Fang was admitted after heart and bowel surgery. She is doing well. She just needs some medication, loving care and feeding and hopefully she will be ready for adoption. HC Cong was returned to her province hopefully to foster care. She had been with us for nearly three years and her dossier has been prepared for adoption. We will miss this little sweetie. She has been part of our family for so long. HR Qun was admitted to hospital for surgery for his cleft palate. Surgery has been delayed because of an infection for which he is being treated in the hospital. Please support Love Without Boundaries in their efforts to help the children in China.
