News – December 2009

Dear Friends and Supporters,

A very Merry Christmas and New Year to all of you. May this holiday season be one of love, joy and peace. Thank you all for your support and prayers for this ministry. This ministry has been in existence for 10 years after we left the “corporate world” behind in 1999. Only by the grace of God, have Rob and I been able carry on over the years. We have had good times and some very difficult times but our focus remains on serving Him and His precious children. We are grateful to every single person and organization that God has touched, to support us in this ministry and we pray that you have been blessed as abundantly as you have blessed us. We have seen miracles happen, incredible favors bestowed on us and learnt much as we continue to serve Him. There is also much that we don’t understand as His ways are not ours but putting our hands in His, has given us tremendous comfort, hope and confidence. We believe that all we have, belongs to Him, all that we do is guided by Him and all that happens is because He has willed it. In our times of greatest joy as well as in the times of deepest sorrows, we will continue to praise Him.

Very briefly, here is a report on what your support and prayers have done to allow us to bring comfort and healing to the children during the year of 2009.

Number of new children admitted this year in all units: 180

Number of adoptions in 2009: 26

Number of deaths:
a) Beijing: 2
b) Special care units: 70

Number of hospital admissions and surgeries done in 2009: 79

On a personal note, we rejoice at the birth of our 5th grandchild, Georgia Marie, 2nd child of our son Aron and his wife Karen in Indianapolis, USA. We praise God for the gift of a healthy beautiful baby.

New Admissions

L Xie was transferred to Beijing from our Xinyang unit, stabilized as best we could and urgently transferred to Shanghai for heart surgery. She is now fit enough for further investigations and possible surgery and she is in good hands. Please keep her in your prayers. She is stable on medication for her heart and the doctors think she has a good chance of survival.

Love Without Boundaries Shunyi Outreach Foster Program

All the children are doing well in this program. Rudy Andrew’s foster mother has taken some time to grieve the loss of this little boy last month. She is a wonderful woman and is now ready to take on another child to love and care for.

NHF Special Care Units, Jiaozuo, Luoyang and Xin Yang, Henan Province (75 beds)

These units provide humane and loving, hospice care for infants and young children with severe congenital defects who are unlikely to survive under normal circumstances. Those who survive are unexpected blessings.

Our Needs

  1. Other than basic running costs, we have no specific needs at the moment. L Xie will need funds to cover her hospital fees when she is fit enough for heart surgery but we will address this when we know what she needs.

Our Most Sincere Thanks

  1. We thank the “D” family for a generous donation to be used where the need is greatest. They did not want to be thanked officially but we want to express our gratitude and wish abundant blessings on you for your generosity.

  2. Portion for Orphans for covering the costs of Kelsie Rae, FD Hua and A Ke. The children are doing well. They have also sent us funds to cover 2 cleft surgeries which will be done as soon as the children are healthy enough.

  3. The German Embassy Christmas Bazaar for their financial gift.

  4. SKF for their financial gift, collected in lieu of Christmas gifts to their staff.

  5. SECA for a financial gift as well as for their incredible support of infant measuring equipment over many years which have been so essential our work.

  6. To Virgin Airlines who not only supported our organization financial but also offered our family free flights to London for Christmas to visit our family and friends.

Travelers Needed

We are in need of travelers from the US and UK to Beijing to help bring in much needed supplies for our children. None of these supplies are “restricted items” and do not have to be declared at customs. The items will be mailed to you within the country. New Hope Foundation staff will be at the airport to pick up the supplies in Beijing.

If you able to help or know of other travelers who are willing to help please contact the following:

a) From the US: Rebecca Dorris, Tennessee, Phone 615-371-5221
b) From the UK: Jennifer Drake, Surrey

With our deepest gratitude,

Joyce and Robin Hill
