News – February 2010

Dear Friends and Supporters,

A Note from Robin:

Joyce and I want to thank you all for your support over the last 10 years. We have been amazed over the years how God has provided through your support. We have grown from a small start of a 16 bed unit and today we have 4 units in China with a total capacity of 234 beds. With the help of organizations like Show Hope andLove Without Boundarieswho are now funding the running cost for 168 of these beds, we have been able to help over 795 babies since we started.

We need to move our Jiao Zuo unit into the new Children’s Welfare Institute building in the next couple of month as they are relocating, We have a donor willing to underwrite the renovation of the unit which will increase our capacity by 24 beds.

We also have the opportunity to open a new special care unit in Zheng Zhou which will be able to care for 45 more babies enabling us to save many more lives, as well as caring for those babies who will pass away in a loving environment.

With this rapid expansion our need for funds for running costs and medical expenses has also grown. Last month in our needs list we asked for help with a number of medical expenses. Many of you did respond but we still have US$31,000 medical costs which have not been funded. On top of that we have another US$17,000 of medical expenses which will need funding in the next few months. To date this has been funded from our normal running cost reserve.

This has brought us to today where we have less than 2 weeks running cost in the bank, Joyce and I would ask you to consider our situation. We both want to see the continued expansion of the work here in China but without the funds to do this, we will need to start cutting back the number of babies we can care for rather than expand.

Best regards

Robin

Happy Chinese New Year to all our Chinese friends and supporters. We celebrated with the usual gifts of rice oil and dried fish for all our employees which now stands at over 200 people. A firework display was enjoyed by all and our wonderful pre-school teachers Mad and Mo from England got all the toddlers excited making Tiger masks and banners.

Hope Healing Home, Beijing

The children have slowly begun to heal after a very difficult time last month with so many succumbing to pneumonia. A few children are still struggling with chest problems but we believe the worst is over.

Ethan went to Hong Kong for genital surgery and he is doing well in the care of British volunteer Sylvia who has been wonderful. She is an amazing woman who comes all the way from England to help us with or children. We are grateful to Dr John Ngan and his team for helping Ethan.

Six children have been moved to Maria’s Big House to await cleft surgery by a team from Geisinger Hospitalin the US. More children will be move there as soon as we can arrange it.

New Admissions

DY Yao with bowel problems was admitted this month. She is a beautiful baby and we hope that we will be able to correct her problems. Three babies from Luoyang were transferred to Beijing for treatment and investigations. DZ Yue and DC Rou have clubbed feet, and DX Fang has a complicated heart condition and we will investigate to see if she is operable.

Our Most Sincere Thanks

  1. To Sally Lockett, founder of Portion for Orphans who organized a Hope Run/Walk in Marshall, Texas on February 6th in support of our children. The mayor came out for the event and declared the 2nd Saturday of February to be “Portion for Orphans day.” Well done! POF supports many orphan related works around the world, changing the lives of so many needy children.
