News – April 2010

Dear Friends and Supporters,

The renovations of our new unit in Jiaozuo’s new SWI building are now complete and the SWI says that they will move the whole SWI to the new building in May. Murals are now being painted on the walls and I am hurrying to finish up the quilts for the babies beds. We are very grateful to Show Hope who has offered to pick up the running cost of this unit. They will decide later what to name it.

The workers will now head to Zhengzhou to prepare a new unit there.

Hope Healing Home, Beijing

The COO/MedArt team from Hong Kong went to Suzhou University Children’s Hospital to operate on three of our babies needing neurosurgery: Brielle; Cadence; and Yesus. They are having some complications which the doctors are dealing with. Emmanuel and DT Xiao went for heart surgery in Shanghai. Emmanuel is back in Maria’s Big House of Hope and is doing well. DT Xiao is still in hospital at time of writing. Joely Hope has returned after emergency brain surgery in Hong Kong and she is doing well. Jude was the next child to go to Hong Kong for investigations and possible surgery. We are very grateful to Sue Sharp who has so willingly flown all the way from the UK to care for Jude. Sue and her mother Sylvia are extraordinary ladies who help us in this capacity. DH Peng who was admitted for urgent spinal surgery to a hospital in Beijing sadly did not make it. He died of massive infection. We are very sad to lose him. We had high hopes for his survival. DX Zhi who was admitted last month has a very complex heart condition and we are getting several specialists opinions as to what can be done for him.

Adoptions

Eli, Joy Hannah, Ethan Abraham, Matthew, and GZ Wei have left us to prepare to be picked by their new families. Jack was returned to his SWI in Shandong Province in exchange for another baby needing surgery. We hope that they will move along with his dossier as he could very easily be adopted.

Our Needs

  1. We are always in need of funds for Surgeries and Medical care as these are the kind of children we are attempting to help. Any contributions, large or small toward this would be gratefully accepted. If anyone would like to contribute towards the medical or surgical care of a specific child, please let me know. The hospital costs need not be covered totally by one person.

  2. Hospital fees for Julia Grace of $950.

  3. Hospital fees for DT Xiao of $10,000.

Our Most Sincere Thanks

  1. The Australian Embassy for a generous donation for the renovations of the unit in Zhengzhou.

  2. Rejean Cote, a teacher at theInternational School of Beijingwho hosted a wine-tasting to raise funds for us. Rejean does this faithfully every year.

  3. All those who have sent and are still sending in the clothes for the babies. Over these next few months we are expecting to admit about 100 new babies.

  4. To all those who are sending us the much needed colostomy bags.

  5. Sherri R and Amy P for their generous financial gifts.

  6. Students from ISB and IAB who planted flowers in our gardens this Spring.

Travelers Needed

We are in need of travelers from the US and UK to Beijing to help bring in much needed supplies for our children. None of these supplies are “restricted items” and do not have to be declared at customs. The items will be mailed to you within the country. New Hope Foundation staff will be at the airport to pick up the supplies in Beijing.

If you able to help or know of other travelers who are willing to help please contact the following:

a) From the US: Rebecca Dorris, Tennessee, phone 615-371-5221
b) From the UK: Jennifer Drake, Surrey

With our deepest gratitude,

Joyce and Robin Hill
